Private by design
Your calculations and tool inputs are processed in your browser. They do not need a round trip to a server to become useful.
A different kind of software company
MonkeyTactics is an independent collection of useful, private tools built by someone who has seen technology serve people — and watched that relationship slowly reverse.
I’m Adriaan Greyling. I entered the financial industry in 1996 and spent my career working with the systems behind everyday transactions at large banks in South Africa, Australia, and the United States.
Much of that work lived on mainframes, where reliability is not a marketing phrase. I analyzed millions of debit-card transactions every day. At that scale, small errors become large problems. Software has to be correct, understandable, and dependable under pressure.
In one role, I was responsible for building a real-time mainframe application that made credit decisions for credit-card applicants. It gathered a substantial amount of credit-bureau data, evaluated it immediately, and helped determine the interest rate a person would receive.
That experience put me on the other side of the information-collection apparatus. I saw firsthand how much personal data large institutions can assemble, how quickly systems can act on it, and how directly those decisions can affect someone’s financial life.
Over the years, I also watched the wider technology industry change. What began as a mostly straightforward exchange — a company provides a product and a customer pays for it — became something more extractive. Increasingly, the customer became the product: profiled, tracked, retained, and monetized.
I am retired from the corporate world now. MonkeyTactics is my way of offering a different option: useful software with no account required, no sales funnel to enter, and no need to surrender your inputs just to get an answer.
Experience at scale
Financial systems teach a durable lesson: correctness comes first. They reward careful thinking, explicit logic, performance, and respect for the person whose money or information passes through the system.
That mindset follows every MonkeyTactics tool — from a simple percentage calculation to a Rust and WebAssembly QR encoder. The interface should feel easy because the engineering beneath it has done the hard work.
The philosophy
These are engineering decisions, not slogans added after the product is built.
Your calculations and tool inputs are processed in your browser. They do not need a round trip to a server to become useful.
No account before the answer. No maze of screens. No feature added merely to keep you clicking. The shortest path to a correct result wins.
Lean pages, focused code, and browser-native tools keep waiting to a minimum. Your time and your device resources matter.
Results should be explainable, testable, and dependable. Craftsmanship means getting the fundamentals right — especially when no one is watching.
Why calculators?
A calculator is software in its most honest form: you bring a question, the tool applies clear logic, and it returns an answer. It does not need to know who you are. It does not need to remember you. It simply needs to work.
MonkeyTactics began with that straightforward promise and continues to expand into practical finance, construction, health, productivity, and utility workflows.
Why Rust + WebAssembly?
MonkeyTactics has nine distinct first-party Rust crates compiled to WebAssembly. Several tools share an engine, so those components power the 18 browser experiences listed below.
Where this is going
MonkeyTactics will keep growing, but growth is not the goal by itself. The goal is a more capable library of dependable tools that remains fast, understandable, and respectful of the people using it.
MonkeyTactics is named for the way real problems are solved: with simple tools, clear logic, and a bit of resourcefulness. Monkeys use what’s in front of them. Tactics provide the discipline behind the engineering. Together, they reflect the spirit of these tools — approachable on the surface, serious underneath.
The green monkey also pays homage to the mainframe days of working at 3270 green-screen terminals — a small piece of computing history carried into every MonkeyTactics tool.
