Overview

MonkeyTactics application source code is licensed separately under the repository's MIT License. The Standard dictionary used by the word tools is a transformed copy of the ENABLE word list described below.

ENABLE

The ENABLE master word list was formally released into the public domain for anyone to use, modify, and distribute.

Wiktionary Expanded dictionary

The Expanded dictionary is a normalized, lowercase ASCII subset of the May 2026 Wiktionary-derived word list. It is available to the word solvers and Anagram Architect. Wiktionary contributors are credited collectively; the source page history provides individual attribution.

Princeton WordNet 3.0

• Purpose: Browser-local Crossword Solver definitions and lexical metadata used by Anagram Architect's language ranking
• Version: 3.0

The generated records retain source provenance. Crossword and anagram processing, searching, and ranking run locally in the visitor's browser.

Datamuse API

• Purpose: On-demand definitions in the Crossword Solver
• Provider: Datamuse
• Service: Datamuse API
• Definition sources identified by Datamuse: Wiktionary and WordNet 3.0

When a user chooses to look up a matching crossword word, MonkeyTactics requests definition metadata for that word from the Datamuse API. Datamuse asks publicly available applications using its API to acknowledge the service. Definitions are supplied on demand and may be incomplete, unavailable, or drawn from third-party lexical sources subject to their respective terms.
