03 / Candidate control
Focus on One Octordle Board
Select any Board 1–8 result heading to expand that board and hide the other candidate lists. The expanded view shows more possible words of the selected length with less scrolling.
The same board is outlined in every shared-guess history row, while its gray, yellow, and green letter states fill the on-screen keyboard. Select the heading again—or press Escape—to return to the eight-board view.
04 / Workspace controls
Explore Candidates Your Way
Use Board Layout to choose how many of the eight feedback and analysis boards appear in each row. The layout is saved in this browser and automatically adapts on smaller screens.
Expand any Board 1–8 analysis, then choose Alphabetical, Information, or Letter pattern. Alphabetical pages through every matching word, Information groups the strongest entropy choices, and Letter pattern organizes candidates by vowel and consonant structure.

Octordle Solver FAQ
How do I use the Octordle solver?
Choose 4, 5, or 6 letters, enter the guess you played, then mark only the yellow and green tiles on each board. Leave gray tiles unmarked; they count as absent when you add the guess and narrow all eight answer lists.
How does the next-guess recommendation work?
The solver compares how well each guess divides the remaining candidates across every unsolved board and recommends the word with the strongest combined information score.
What does entropy mean in the Octordle solver?
Entropy estimates how much information a guess can reveal. A higher bit value means the guess is expected to split that board's remaining candidates into more useful groups.
Can I expand one Octordle board?
Yes. Select a result board heading to hide the other seven boards and show a taller candidate list. The matching board is highlighted in shared-guess history, and its colors fill the keyboard. Select it again or press Escape to restore all eight boards.
Which dictionary should I choose?
ENABLE is a broad North American English word list. EXPANDED adds British and North American word-game vocabulary. Choose Both for the widest candidate search.
Does the solver handle repeated letters?
Yes. Each board uses Wordle-style two-pass scoring, so gray, yellow, and green copies of a repeated letter create the correct minimum and maximum counts.
Are guesses sent to Merriam-Webster?
No. You copy the colored results into this independent tool, and its word filtering runs locally in your browser.
